Notes : The earliest reported date for the delivery of a postal item covered by the Type D is a PHS 44 on 13 August 1922. Handstamps of this Type appeared irregularly thereafter, replacing earlier issues, and it took about six years for the first 25 examples of Type D to be brought into use. It appears that the Malta postal reorganisation was used as an opportunity to replace worn, damaged or misplaced handstamps with the new Type D. The initial delivery date recorded for the remaining two numbers was in the mid to late 1930s, by which time some of the Type D handstamps had already been withdrawn from service. PHS 48 15 April 1935 PHS 54 18 August 1934. All bar one of the Group1 Type C handstamps were replaced with a Type D: PHS 27, 31, 32, 36, 40, 43, 44, 45, 48, 49, 58.
